This week’s pieces focus on grief, anxiety, and mental health in teens and young adults.

  • “"Science of Grief" podcast” — Natasha T. Miller, NPR (Since 5/14/2021) [article]

This recently-started podcast, by and for young adults, takes a look at mental health issues including grief and loss, boundary-setting, and more. If you know a young adult struggling with mental health issues, this could be a great resource.

  • “‘How to Support Teenagers as They Head Back to School” — Lisa Damour, NY Times (8/23/2021) [article]

Another on the topic of young people, this article provides guidance on how to help adolescents navigate these tumultuous times. Helpful tips include offering compassion rather than solutions or simply providing distractions. Damour does also point out when it is time to be genuinely concerned and seek outside help.

  • “This Teenager Is Developing a Video Game That Assesses Your Mental Health” — Lila Thulin, Smithsonian Magazine (8/26/2021) [article]

A very interesting project: a video game intended to assess mental health for young people created by an 18-year-old Saudi Arabian woman.
